COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE

AVOIDING LITIGATION AND BECOMING A PEACEMAKER

When parents go to war over their children or with each other, no matter how hard the professionals try there is very often significant damage to the divorcing couple, their children, and the extended family.

As a Collaborative Divorce Practitioner I have observed that the stress on families going through divorce can be minimized. Most often emotional issues and conflicts between a husband and a wife are resolved in such a way that everyone’s voice is heard, including the children, and everyone’s concerns are addressed. Perhaps the most important aspect of Collaborative Divorce is that you and your spouse will have total control of the outcome. In this process no one, not even a judge, will tell you what to do with your lives or your children.

The full team Collaborative Divorce model uses a six person team to assist a divorcing couple by providing comprehensive services to address the legal, emotional, and financial needs of the entire family.

The team consists of highly trained and experienced professionals with specialized knowledge in all areas pertaining to divorce.

2 Family Law Attorneys (one for each parent)

2 Divorce Coaches (one for each parent)*

1 Child Specialist*

1 Divorce Financial Specialist

*Dr. Gaughan can serve as either a Divorce Coach or a Child Specialist

The Divorce Coach helps his client communicate effectively during the divorce process and manage emotional or psychological issues which could negatively impact the final outcome or adversely effect the children.

The Child Specialist gives the children their own voice during the divorce process and helps both parents identify and focus on the needs of their children.

I recently attended a meeting of The International Academy of Collaborative Divorce Professionals. There I met attorneys, coaches, child specialists, and financial professionals from all over the United States and from foreign countries such as Canada, Ireland, Australia, and the Netherlands. I have been very impressed by the dedication, genuine concern, and commitment that professionals from Arizona and all over the world have for the families that they serve.

Finding a peaceful solution is extremely helpful to every member of the family. Collaborative Divorce is not suitable for every divorcing couple, but if you and your spouse are committed to the best possible outcome for each other and for your children, please contact me for further information.
